About this conversion
PNG uses lossless compression, so converting a JPG to PNG won't recover detail lost during the original JPEG encoding — but it will stop any further quality loss from re-saving, and it adds support for transparency if you edit the image afterward. PNG files are typically larger than JPGs of the same image, which is the main trade-off.

Will converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?
No. PNG conversion preserves whatever quality the JPG already has — it can't restore detail the original JPEG compression removed. It does prevent additional loss from further edits and re-saves.
